Looking for a fresh start, Vergil Ortiz Jr. is ready to dominate a new division. The 26-year-old challenges Serhii Bohachuk for the interim WBC super welterweight title on August 10. The fight will air on DAZN worldwide .

Ortiz (21-0) has a 100-percent knockout-to-win ratio. A former amateur standout, the 2016 Golden Gloves winner has fought sparingly over the years after suffering from rhabdomyolysis . The former welterweight prospect now looks to make up for lost time by going 3-0 in 2024.

Bohachuk (24-1) won the interim super welterweight title against Brian Mendoza in March . The Ukrainian is on a six-fight win streak, winning all but one bout via knockout.

Ortiz was being lined up to face former world champion Tim Tszyu, but Tszyu's injuries and a bloody loss to Sebastian Fundora nixed those plans. Bohachuk is ready to upset the 26-year-old Ortiz and he's punch-swapped with his opponent in the past.

“I know his style,” Bohachuk told Fight Hub TV via Boxing 24/7 . “I have experience training with him, I have sparring with him, a lot of time sparring with him – maybe 50 rounds, maybe 70 rounds with him sparring. Sparring is sparring, fight is fight – different. I know his style, he’s fast, strong, he’s Mexican boxer, and he’s smart. He’s thinking, you know. And he knows me too…. it will be war. It’s very interesting."

Gray (18-6) has 13 wins via knockout and is on a two-fight win streak. "King TooSharp" has competed sparingly since 2019, entering the ring three times since a loss to Gary O'Sullivan.

A 2013 USA National Championships winner, Sims (20-2-1) has seven wins via knockout. “Bossman” competes for the first time in a year after taking care of former title contender Botirzhon Akhmedov. Ranked No. 1 by the WBA, a win could secure a title shot for the former Team USA member.

Perez (25-5) is 2-2 in his last four fights. "Ricky" last competed in February, beating former champion Joseph Diaz in a close contest.

One of the youngest female champions today, Fundora (13-0), 22, has won her last two bouts by KO, dropping Arely Mucino twice in October to win flyweight gold. Gabriela is the younger sister of reigning WBC and WBO super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora.

Asenjo (16-3-3) is a former super flyweight world title challenger, having fought to a draw with then-WBA champ Maribel Ramirez in 2022. Including that fight, she is 6-0-1 since a loss in 2019.

Cecilia Braekhus vs. Maricela Cornejo

Maricela Cornejo is a late replacement for Ema Kozin, who was scheduled to defend WBC and WBO super welterweight titles against Cecilia Braekhus on this card.

Braekhus (37-2-1) held welterweight gold from 2009 to 2020, losing her status as undisputed champion to Jessica McCaskill. This trailblazer's 25 consecutive world title defenses tied the legendary Joe Louis' mark at heavyweight. "The First Lady" is 1-1-1 since the first McCaskill contest, fighting Terri Harper to a controversial draw in October in her first attempt at super welterweight gold.

Cornejo is a four-time world title challenger, having fallen short against Kali Reis, Franchon Crew-Dezurn (twice) and Claressa Shields. The 37-year-old, known as "The Diva", has been active and is on a three-fight win streak.

Ortiz, a late replacement for Thomas Guillemette, has been inactive for six-and-a-half years.
