For WNBA fans out of the loop, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have become a hot topic. Their absence from the USA Basketball team for the 2024 Paris Olympics has puzzled many, especially since they shined in the WNBA All-Star game. What's the reason behind this?
LSU star Flau'jae Johnson has shed light on the situation. Known for her straightforward approach and impressive skills, Johnson revealed the details on the "Way Up with Angela Yee" podcast recently. She openly discussed the reasons behind Clark and Reese not heading to Paris, and it's quite the revelation.
Johnson was frank about the underlying issues. It's not a question of ability; after all, Clark and Reese are top-tier WNBA players. The real issue lies in prior commitments. Missing previous training camps and sessions seems to be a significant factor in the selection process for the Team USA jersey.
“They’ve been doing that for a long time. It’s kind of like they already had a team basically together and practicing," Johnson said.
"But I think, they [Clark and Reese] could play on that team right now. With the talent they got, they’re obviously two of the top players in the league. So, I think they definitely could have played but we still gonna get that gold. We still dominating. It’s all good.

Johnson beamed as she shared her experiences from the All-Star game. “That was the first time that I got to watch a real game ’cause I was traveling so much. I got to see all of my favorite players. I was just trying to meet everybody, I was like a kid in a candy store,” she gushed. Imagine Johnson dashing about, the epitome of a starstruck admirer, with eyes agape and an autograph book clutched in hand, a spectacle indeed.
Although Clark and Reese may not be traveling to Paris, Johnson assures that Team USA remains fully prepared and determined to secure the gold. “We still gonna get that gold. We still dominating. It’s all good,” she repeated with confidence.
Ultimately, Johnson's disclosures underscore that the journey to Olympic success is forged through perseverance, dedication, and occasionally, navigating bureaucratic hurdles. Whie and Reese might be on the sidelines for this event, with prodigies like Johnson at the helm, the future of USA Basketball remains promising.
