In recent years, Prince Harry has shown a willingness to speak candidly about his life . After a lifetime of living under the intense scrutiny associated with being a full-time working royal, his relocation to California and newfound financial independence have allowed the Duke of Sussex to drop part of the formal facade that once constrained him as a representative of the monarchy.

Having had his public narrative largely dictated throughout his life, Harry has begun to share his own story , told from his perspective. Through his bestselling book Spare , his explosive 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, and his six-part Netflix documentary series offering a glimpse into life behind closed doors for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry has not hesitated to share his side of the story.

This includes discussing an incident he considers the "biggest mistake" of his life. In his Netflix docu-series , Harry & Meghan, the couple offers an intimate look at how their love story began and evolved, as they navigated the challenges of life under public scrutiny. Ultimately, this led the couple to establish a new home in California for their young family.

In the series, Harry also revisits a contentious topic the infamous Nazi costume he wore to a 2005 fancy dress party. He labeled his decision to don the outfit as "one of the biggest mistakes in my life", confessing that he "felt so ashamed afterward," reports the Mirror .

He went on to share how he journeyed to Berlin to meet a Holocaust survivor and learn from their experiences and was fortunate enough to have a sit-down with the Chief Rabbi of Britain - to gain more insight into the repercussions of his costume choice.

In his memoir Spare, Harry recounted their meeting, revealing that despite feeling "bottomless self-loathing" for his actions, the Chief Rabbi "urged me not to be devasted by my mistake, but instead to be motivated". He added that the Rabbi told him "to lift your head, go forth, use this experience to make the world better".

In another excerpt, Harry delved into his emotions during his visit to Berlin, penning that he "swore [he] could hear the echoes of agonized screams on the wind" and realized his costume "had been the result of various failures - failures of thinking, failure of character. But it had also been a failure of education. Not just school education, but self-education. I hadn't known enough about the Nazis, hadn't taught myself enough, hadn't asked enough questions of teachers and families and survivors. I'd resolved to change that."

In the documentary series, Harry further clarified, "I could've just ignored it and probably made the same mistakes over and over again in my life, but I learned from that."
