Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has hit back at claims that her most recent single contains an offensive lyric that is pointed at her boyfriend Barry Keoghan .

The 25-year-old spoke with Variety about her recent success in the charts, her friendship with Taylor Swift , and even offered a rare comment on her relationship with Irish actor, Barry Keoghan.

The Saltburn star featured in her music video for Please, Please, Please, which some fans felt contained an offensive, anti-Irish lyric.

"He loved the song,” Sabrina insisted. “He’s obsessed with the lyrics, and I’m so grateful for that. I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special."

Carpenter received backlash from Irish fans in particular when the song about an untrustworthy lover went viral, saying, “Whatever devil's inside you, don't let him out tonight, I tell them it's just your culture and everyone rolls their eyes.”

Some felt the song fed into a harmful Irish stereotype about drinking or misbehaving. Carpenter’s most recent comments seem to debunk this rumor, as did the presence of Keoghan in the video, which insiders say he was delighted to be a part of.

Carpenter recently announced a show in Dublin in March next year, as fans anticipate the release of her new album Short n' Sweet , which will no doubt feature more music about her Irish-beau.
