100 Days Until Opening Day at Mammoth Mountain, California

Mammoth Mountain, California announced today, August 7, 2024, that they are just 100 days out from their projected opening day for the Winter '24/'25 ski season.

If all goes according to plan, Mammoth will welcome skiers and snowboarders on November 15th, 2024.

With La Niña in the forecast , it's hard to predict how the season will shake out at Mammoth, but if it's anything like the last La Niña, powder lovers won't have much to complain about.

Interestingly enough, this year's 100 day announcement comes almost exactly one year after Winter '22/'23's closing day . If you recall, Mammoth kept their upper elevation chairlifts open all the way through August 6th, 2023 thanks to record-breaking snowfall throughout the season.

Mammoth opted to conclude this past season on May 27th due to a variety of offseason lift construction projects including the replacement of Broadway , also known as Lift #1.

The aging high-speed quad was built in 1988 and retrofitted by Doppelmayr in 1996. A reliable people-mover, the lift served Mammoth well for nearly four decades, but it will be replaced by a state of the art Doppelmayr D-Line high-speed six pack for Winter '24/'25.

Elsewhere in California, Palisades Tahoe announced that they will open on November 27th, 2024, conditions and weather permitting. They shared the news back in early-July with an announcement celebrating 150 days until opening.

August is ripe for "100 days until opening day" posts from your favorite ski resorts, so don't be surprised when you see them clog your feed over the coming days and weeks. Also, try your best to not to get overly excited, if possible.

We're only 100 days away from skiing, but that's still a considerable amount of time. Consider taking some advice from POWDER's Ian Greenwood. Summer isn't all that bad.
