Where did Quincy Hall go to college? How USA sprinter went from community college to Olympic gold medalist

Quincy Hall stunned track and field fans with a dazzling finish in the 400m final, where he shot from fourth to first in the final third of the race.

The 26-year-old locked up Team USA's 19th medal in athletics so far in Paris — its sixth gold.

Having not competed in Tokyo, Hall is a newer face on the Olympic stage to average American viewers. He's been steadily improving since turning professional in 2022, winning bronze in the 400m and gold in the 4x400m relay in Budapest at the World Championships last year.

Now an Olympic champion, Hall can credit some of his success to the training he received during his developmental years, including college. Here's how the USA sprinter went from community college to a gold medal.

Where did Quincy Hall go to college?

Hall spent his first two seasons of collegiate track at the College of the Sequoias, a junior college in Visalia, California. In both 2017 and 2018, he won the CCCAA California State Championships in the 400m, 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay.

After solidifying himself as one of the best junior college sprinters in the country, Hall transferred to the University of South Carolina for his junior and senior years. In his debut for the Gamecocks, he ran a program record in the indoor 400m with a time of 45.84.

He broke his own record three more times that year, becoming the 400m hurdles outdoor NCAA champion and earning an assortment of indoor and outdoor First-Team All-American honors.

Though the 2020 outdoor season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hall was able to complete a successful indoor season despite only competing in four meets. He had qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships that were later cancelled because of the virus. He still earned indoor All-American honors in the 400m that year before turning professional.

Where is Quincy Hall from?

Despite attending college on both coasts, Hall is from the Midwest. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended Raytown South High School. Hall was a 2016 state champion in the 400m where he set a Missouri State High School record with a time of 46.82.
