    Oak Ridge Boys

    Giddy up.

There isn’t a more beloved classic country song than “Elvira” by the Oak Ridge Boys. The 1981 hit has become the legendary group’s signature song, thanks in no small part to bass singer Richard Sterban’s iconic “oom papa mow mow.” The song won a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group, was Single of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards, and has since been certified double platinum.

So it’s a little hard to believe that the Oaks never released a video for the song.

But “Elvira” was released before the launch of the first cable music video channel (remember those?) so it never got the video treatment it deserved – until now.

Filmed at John Rich’s Redneck Riviera in downtown Nashville, the Oak Ridge Boys teamed up with a star-studded group of friends to deliver the first-ever music video for “Elvira,” over 40 years after the song was first released.

Not only does the video feature guest appearances from names like Kid Rock, Lorrie Morgan, Big & Rich, Trace Adkins and many more, but it also marks the final video with longtime tenor singer Joe Bonsall.

Bonsall, who served as a member of the group for over 50 years, tragically passed away last month after a battle with ALS. He had announced earlier this year that he would be stepping off the road with the Oak Ridge Boys, but luckily he was able to appear in the music video for the group’s biggest hit.

If you’ve ever been to Redneck Riviera, you know that it’s one of the few places left that still features classic country music…so it’s no surprise that this video looks like everybody’s having a heck of a good time.

Cheers to Joe Bonsall, to the Oak Ridge Boys, and over 40 years later, to the first-ever “Elvira” music video.
