Analyst Says New England Patriots QB and HC Have Added Pressure Following Failed Trade

The New England Patriots are facing an interesting challenge currently that is all too common among teams that sit near the bottom of the standings.

By all accounts, 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be traded elsewhere after New England's high money offer did not move the needle for the pass catcher. High quality free agents simply do not want to come to a team that to this point, has not shown any signs of improvement.

Instead of bringing in outside help to accelerate the rebuild, the Patriots are in a spot where they must win (or at least show promise) with what's already in the building. In his latest article , Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports made the claim that the lack of ability to convince outside players to want to be in New England puts added pressure on Jerod Mayo and Drake Maye .

"This is where the pressure builds on the first-year head coach and rookie quarterback. Of course, they were already tasked with resurrecting the franchise back into a contender, but they now need to simply turn themselves into an organization where star players want to be, which comes hand-in-hand," Sullivan wrote . "If, by this time next year, New England can rest on a promising young coach and a former top-three overall pick at quarterback who flashed when he got an opportunity as a rookie, they are suddenly a franchise to buy in on instead of where they sit now as they possibly plummet to the bottom of the standings yet again."

If Maye comes out and lights the world on fire as a rookie, talent will naturally want to come to New England. If that's not the case and things are bad this year once again, it's a tough sell to free agents, even with the team having money to spend.
