U.S. Sprinter Quincy Hall Proves Noah Lyles Wrong In Olympic Final

United States sprinter Quincy Hall earned his first Olympic gold medal on Wednesday, securing the prestigious accolade in the 400-meter final.

During his gold medal performance, Hall finished the race with a time of 43.40.

Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain earned the silver medal at 43.44, and Muzala Samukonga from Zambia earned the bronze medal at 43.74.

Following the gold medal victory for Hall, his previous conflict with fellow American runner Noah Lyles resurfaced on social media.

Lyles was featured on the "Track World News" podcast in late July, just before the Olympic Games in Paris, France. The widely known Olympic runner shared his ideal 4X400m relay team on the podcast.

Lyles suggested that using Hall in the first leg of a 4x400m relay would not maximize Hall's full potential. Lyles felt that Hall's talents would be better utilized in a different position where he could have a greater impact rather than starting off the race where his abilities might not be fully showcased.

Lyles left Hall off his ideal relay team because he believed other athletes would be a better fit for the team composition. Lyles opted for Chris Bailey, Michael Norman, Rai Benjamin, and himself, indicating he did not think Hall's talents were best utilized in any of the relay legs for his strategy.

“The only reason I wouldn’t use the current U.S. champion is that I just don’t think he’d be a starter,” Lyles said. “Using him on the first leg would almost be like a waste of his talents.”

Though Lyles' exclusion of Hall wasn't necessarily a direct diss, Hall certainly perceived it as a slight.

Hall then responded to Lyles, tweeting at the short-distance sprinter.

"Noah Lyles, I don’t bother nobody, but my blocks ready anytime you feel like you can beat me in the 400," Hall said. "You was talking to much on my name on yo little podcast, Track World News, I don’t do the little slick comments and remarks I line up."

Later, Hall doubled down on his comments, posting a video to X in which he defended himself against people who claimed he was overreacting and that Lyles' comments were not disrespectful.

Lyles is widely known as the most popular runner in the United States as a result of his success in the Olympics and World Championship events.

He earned a gold medal in the 100-meter final at the Paris Olympics, with a final time of 9.784 seconds. Lyles will compete in the 200-meter final on Aug. 8 at 2:30 p.m.ET.

While the two may be at odds, both athletes have already achieved the ultimate goal of winning a gold medal.

However, fans were quick to remind Lyles of his previous comments after Hall won a gold medal on Wednesday.
