Dallas Cowboys first-round rookie Tyler Guyton quickly turned around everyone's perception of him last week and it basically took one padded practice to do so.

After being picked 29th overall back in April, question marks surrounded Guyton's game readiness at the NFL level despite his high-end athleticism. Many questioned if the technique was there for him to start Day 1 . But after putting on pads for the first time at the pro level, Guyton handled Micah Parsons with ease on the Cowboys' opening padded practice.

Although since then Guyton has missed a few practices with an illness, that performance has fans and media alike wondering if he should be named the started over veteran Chuma Edoga.

"Of course it did (feel pretty good)," Guyton told reporters when asked about the impressive practice against Parsons. "We're both getting each other better."

But beyond the "feeling good" aspect of it all, the practice should genuinely make an impact in his own play, as the rookie explains how the whole sequence ended up helping him moving forward

"It definitely boosts (my confidence), he's one of the best pass rushers ever," Guyton said. "Probably the best in the league, going up against him, even losing helps me out, it makes me better."

Guyton will have plenty more chances to prove himself against top-tier talent if earns the starting role as the Cowboys are set to face quite the gauntlet of elite pass rushers in the first half of the season, including the following:

    • Week 1: Myles Garrett (Browns)
    • Week 2: Chase Young (Saints)
    • Week 3: Odafe Oweh (Ravens)
    • Week 4: Brian Burns / Kayvon Thibodeaux (Giants)
    • Week 5: Alex Highsmith / T.J. Watt (Steelers)
    • Week 6: Aidan Hutchinson (Lions)
    • Week 8: Nick Bosa (49ers)

The good news is the former Oklahoma Sooner looks much more ready than originally expected. And training camp is only getting started as the Cowboys are set to face the Los Angeles Rams in joint practice on Thursday and later in a preseason game on Saturday.

Guyton shared with reporters his father has been "watching and keeping track of camp for the last 20 years, so coming out here will be super surreal for him."

But even for Guyton himself, there's a bit of surreal in what he's doing everyday.

"It's a dream come true," Guyton added. "Getting to watch this team work and them coming out and doing it myself, being a part of it, feels pretty good."
