Michael Phelps ‘Pretty Disappointed’ by U.S. Men’s Swimming in Paris

Michael Phelps fired a shot across the bow at Team USA’s male swimmers on Monday, telling USA Today that he wasn’t very impressed with their results at the Paris Olympics. “For me as a whole, I was pretty disappointed to see the U.S. swimming results,” the 39-year-old said. “Obviously, there were a few standout swims, and those you have to recognize.” He gave props to Bobby Finke’s “unbelievable” gold-medal performance in the 1,500-meter freestyle, which set a new world record. But “one of the things that I’ve always said over the last couple of years is the rest of the world is catching up,” Phelps explained. “I think a lot of the things that we’ve done as a country for so long, the other people are catching up. They’re doing the same thing.” Phelps retired from competitive swimming after the 2016 Rio Olympics, closing out his career with a whopping 28 Olympic medals, making him the most decorated Olympian of all time.
