Three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas was once one of the world's most popular gymnasts. But since her last Olympic appearance at the 2016 Rio Games, the former Team USA superstar has fallen out of the spotlight.

A social media user on TikTok recently pointed out that fact in a viral video.

"I'll still never forget how ya'll fumbled Gabby Douglas," the user said. "Ya'll dropped her like a bad habit when Simone Biles came on the scene. Gabby Douglas used to be the greatest Olympic gymnast. Then here comes Simone Biles, nobody cares about Gabby Douglas anymore.

"When was the last time you thought about Gabby Douglas? I think about her all the time."

Douglas replied in the comment section, sharing a concerning admission about the bullying she "constantly" faces from gymnastics fans.

“That’s ok! Constantly being bullied is very tiring and wearing on me. I just want to live my life and be at peace,” Douglas wrote. "Thanks for the love! Definitely needed in this world.”

Biles recognizes how important Douglas is in the history of gymnastics. The all-time great gymnast shouted out her former teammate after her run at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"It was representation," Biles said. "For all the little girls and boys that look like us, for them to believe in themselves that they can do it too. I was one day in their shoes when I saw Gabby [Douglas] win and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, if she can do it, I can do it.'"

Douglas was the All-Around women's gymnastics champion at the 2012 London Olympics. The 28-year-old gymnast suffered an ankle injury before the Paris Games, but is still holding out hope for a comeback at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

“I know it's four years away, but I'm looking forward to it,” Douglas said. “Still representing the USA, still continuing to do gymnastics, so I'm excited.”
