Jamal Murray Gets Brutally Honest After Canada's Huge Olympic Letdown

The Canadian men's basketball team fell short of expectations in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Jamal Murray, given his miserable tournament showing, was seen by many as a big reason why.

Murray looked like a shell of his formerly dynamic self throughout Team Canada's run on the global stage.

The poor play from the Denver Nuggets guard culminated in his 3-of-13 showing during Canada's fatal 82-73 quarterfinals loss to France at Bercy Arena.

The 27-year-old got brutally honest about his underperformance in Canada's first taste of Olympic action in over two decades. Murray pinned it to a role adjustment, given that he was deployed off the bench rather than starting like he does in the NBA.

“It was a tough experience, personally,” said Murray, via the Denver Gazette's Mark Kiszla.

"...It’s an adjustment, for sure. First time coming off the bench, and on top of that, not playing on the ball. It’s just an adjustment, playing against the best teams and players in the world."

The Kentucky alum also denied that his uneasiness on the court was due to any injuries.

But if you're a Nuggets or Team Canada supporter, hearing Murray claim he was completely healthy and just lacked any sort of burst may not exactly sound reassuring going forward. The fans let Murray know it, too .

Team Canada was seen as a strong favorite to finish on the podium and perhaps even challenge Team USA if the chips had fallen advantageously in a knockout round matchup.

However, the man expected to be Canada's second-best player after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did not play up to par. Without Nikola Jokic to play off of, Murray didn't appear comfortable without the ball in his hands.
