USA gymnasts Simone Biles and Stephen Nedoroscik were arguably two of the biggest names at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Many fans already knew who Biles was prior to the event, but Nedoroscik seemingly came out of nowhere and impressed millions, earning the nickname 'pommel horse guy' and creating a new variation of the Peter Parker/Spider-Man glasses meme.

During the men's team final, Nedoroscik sat until the sixth and final rotation for Team USA. The 'pommel horse guy' secured the second-highest score of any competitor in his event with a 14.866. This put the USA into third place and secured it a bronze finish, which was its first Olympic medal in the event since 2008. Nedoroscik then went on to win bronze in the individual pommel horse event.

Nedoroscik's specialty, the pommel horse, is a men's gymnastics equipment utilized for swinging and balancing stunts. It consists of a padded rectangular or cylindrical shape with two handles on top, supported horizontally above the floor.

In an interview with Teen Vogue , Nedoroscik shared that he didn't find out about his new meme until Biles showed him after Team USA's win. He then described the interaction with Biles as "surreal."

“That's just so surreal because I don't think she really even knew what my name was a month ago,” Nedoroscik said about Biles. “She's just an icon, she's the GOAT."

The meme above references Nedoroscik removing his glasses to perform his stunts with blurred vision, only to put them back on with a new Olympic medal.

In the individual pommel horse final, Nedoroscik finished with a score of 15.300, placing him in third. Ireland's Rhys McClenaghan won gold with a 15.533, just 0.233 points ahead of Nedoroscik.

Biles secured four Olympic medals in Paris, including gold medals in the team, all-around and vault finals and a silver in the floor exercise final. Biles now has a total of 11 Olympic medals between 2016, 2020, and 2024, seven of which are gold.

Nedoroscik attended school at Penn State, where he won two gold medals in the pommel horse at the 2017 and 2018 NCAA championships. He also won gold in the same event at the 2021 World Championship.
