Liverpool is close to making Martin Zubimendi their first signing of the summer transfer window .

The Reds have been quiet in the transfer market so far and have yet to make a signing to bolster Arne Slot's squad. However, that could all be set to change after it emerged Zubimendi was the mystery number six who Liverpool were chasing.

The 25-year-old is seen as an ideal fit for Slot's midfield and is available for $63.4m (£51.7m/€60m) having helped Spain to achieve Euro 2024 glory this summer. When Manchester City's Rodri had to go off at half-time in the final against England, it was Zubimendi who stepped up to fill the void, with the La Real star impressively controlling the game for Spain .

And now it appears Real Sociedad expects Zubimendi to be playing his football at Anfield next season. The Athletic report the La Liga side believex Zubimendi will agree to a move that will see him leave the club he has spent his entire professional career at.

However, a minor complication has potentially arisen. The release fee clause has to be paid outright if Real Sociedad is unwilling to negotiate a fee lower than that for Zubimendi. That could mean Liverpool looks to shift on a few players in the coming days, with midfielder Tyler Morton potentially earmarked to depart Anfield to join RB Leipzig this summer. Morton spent last season on-loan at Hull City and has had a $25m (£20m/€23m) price tag slapped on him.

Elsewhere, it looks as though Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier has decided to join Borussia Dortmund according to Florian Plettenberg . It had been claimed Liverpool held talks with Hoffenheim over Beier, but he has since decided to join Dortmund.

The 21-year-old impressed last term in the Bundesliga, scoring 16 goals in 33 games. However, it now looks as though Beier will be playing yellow and black rather than red next season.

Liverpool.com says: It looks increasingly likely Liverpool will be signing Martin Zubimendi this summer. Everything looks to be pointing in that direction with Real Sociedad now believing the Spaniard will make the move to Anfield. When it comes to Beier, it's shame Liverpool won't be signing the talented German, but the team's forward line is well stocked.
