“JJAM” comes off Stray Kids’ recent album ATE , which arrived in July. The album quickly went up the charts to become their fifth Number One album on the Billboard 200. It made history when Jimin’s MUSE went to Number Two. The feat marks the first time two K-pop records have held those positions in the chart’s history.
Although ATE didn’t come out until July, along with single “Chk Chk Boom,” the group have been plotting their domination for months . In January, the octet teased their year ahead, revealing plays for a third world tour, a fourth “fanmeeting,” and two albums. The group split the releases into “one album and one special album,” in addition to teasing pop-up shows, new episodes of their YouTube series, and more.
Stray Kids took the stage at Lollapalooza over the weekend with a headlining set. Rolling Stone wrote of the performance, “While fans literally barked in support, the K-pop group rapped their way through hard-rock renditions of their catalog, courtesy of a live band, next to pyrotechnics, lasers, and fireworks. More striking than the drum-and-bass-inspired ‘Domino’ or funk-laced ‘Back Door’ was the octet’s angular choreography. Their dance moves aligned with punk jostling, giving them the aura of cinema’s suave bad boys.”
