Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an encouraging update on young defender Leny Yoro following his early injury setback, emphasizing the player’s determination to return stronger.

Leny Yoro, who joined Manchester United from Lille last month for a substantial €62 million ($67.7m) fee plus €8 million ($8.7m) in add-ons, made an immediate impact in his first appearance during pre-season against Rangers.

Despite having only one training session with his new teammates, the 17-year-old showcased his potential.

However, in his second outing against Arsenal in Los Angeles, Yoro suffered a fractured metatarsal, sidelining him for three months.

Despite the setback, Ten Hag is confident in Yoro’s ability to overcome this challenge. “There is a fire burning within him,” Ten Hag shared during an interview with Sky Sports at Carrington. “For his age, he is very mature. He knows what he wants, and he’s already started his rehab with a positive mindset.”

The Dutch manager praised Yoro’s character, highlighting why the club was keen to sign him.

“This is one of the reasons why we signed him. He has a great personality and is dealing with the injury well. He won’t get distracted, and I’m sure he’ll return as soon as possible, ready to support the team in winning games and trophies.”

Yoro, who will wear the No.15 shirt previously worn by Sergio Reguilon during his loan spell, is expected to be back in action by October. United fans are already eager to see the young defender back on the pitch.
