Man Utd target pictured in new kit on official website despite transfer not going through

Manchester United has left fans scratching their heads after failing to remove Sofyan Amrabat from the squad list on their official club website, despite his loan spell ending 39 days ago.

Amrabat was brought in on a season-long loan on deadline day during last summer's transfer window, with Fiorentina pocketing a $11m (£8.5m/€10m) from United .

The deal included an option for United to make the move permanent for $27m (£22m/€25m), but limited game time towards the end of the season meant this clause wasn't activated.

Despite returning to Italy following the conclusion of his loan, Amrabat remains listed as part of the United squad on their club website and is even shown sporting the 2024/25 kit, leading to some bemused reactions from supporters questioning why he hasn't been removed.

While Amrabat can be seen donning United's home kit for the 2024/25 season on the website, it's understood that these photos weren't recently taken by a photographer.

In a bid to secure a permanent move to United, Amrabat reportedly delayed his return to Fiorentina's pre-season this summer, but reports from Italy suggest he has now returned to training.

United are in need of a midfielder before the transfer window shuts on August 30, and Erik ten Hag was set to discuss the potential purchase of Amrabat with new sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada last month.

Amrabat remains an option for United and his signing hasn't been ruled out, meaning there's still a chance he could fulfil his dream move to Old Trafford. Despite only making 17 starts for United across all competitions, Amrabat ended his loan spell on a high note, starting the final three league games against Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton.

The 27-year-old also started in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, delivering a standout performance and playing a crucial role as United clinched a stunning victory at Wembley.

Ten Hag, who worked with Amrabat at FC Utrecht in 2017, pushed for United to seal a deal last summer, despite some reservations from certain members of the hierarchy. Amrabat is represented by SEG International, an agency founded by Kees Vos, who also happens to be Ten Hag's agent.

Liverpool.com says: The error appears to be an accidental one and Amrabat certainly hasn't returned to Old Trafford yet. He had a mixed spell on loan and United clearly has other targets but he may be a back-up option come the end of the transfer window.
