Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios already turned Winnie the Pooh into a slasher horror with Blood and Honey. So, why let the classic children’s gore fest stop there? As part of the Twisted Childhood Universe, a Bambi horror film is in the works called Bambi: The Reckoning with director Dan Allen comparing the movie to timeless horror classics.

Bambi: The Reckoning is about a mother and son who survive a car accident only for Bambi to be on the hunt for them. The famed deer is “a mutated grief-stricken deer” who’s out for revenge after the death of his mother. Director Dan Allen compared his new horror flick to Bloody Disgusting as “Cujo meets Jurassic Park.”

There’s also another classic horror film Allen compares Bambi to that can make any horror fan revved up. “It’s gonna be terrifying. When people see a deer in the wild after this film, they’re gonna run for the hills. This film is about the death of childhoods as much as it’s gonna ruin childhoods. Expect bloodshed, tears and rabbits… and one mean killer deer. At last, the British countryside will finally get its Godzilla.”

What’s chilling about horror film creatures like Cujo, dinosaurs, and Godzilla is never knowing when they’ll turn up. It looks like Bambi: The Reckoning will have the same qualities as a bloodthirsty animal lurking in the darkened forest.

What other ‘Twisted Childhood Universe’ horror movies can we expect?

The Twisted Childhood Universe doesn’t stop with Bambi: The Reckoning. Horror fans will have plenty of their childhoods ruined with movies like Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. This upcoming indie horror flick will have Wendy Darling venture into Neverland to rescue her brother, Michael, taken by Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Pinocchio Unstrung is another film to look forward to in this franchise. With the use of animatronics and puppetry involved, Variety said one particular scene will have Pinocchio wear the skin of his victim to “feel like a real boy.”

Other horror retellings you can expect in this unique universe are characters like Sleeping Beauty, the Mad Hatter, and Rabbit from Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. The release date of Bambi: The Reckoning is coming to theaters in early 2025.
