Working for the Olympics is no laughing matter.
Colin Jost is done covering the Olympics surfing competition in Tahiti after getting injured and developing multiple infections on the job, Deadline reported on Monday.
Jost’s correspondent gig for NBC was “always supposed to be short term,” per Deadline, so it’s unclear if his exit is solely due to his health woes.
“I woke up this morning and discovered that I had added ear infection to my growing list of ailments,” he said in an interview from the pool in Tahiti.
“So I’m now on three different medications — four if you count piña coladas,” the “Saturday Night Live” star jokingly added.
He also said that doctors told him he can’t get his foot or his head wet.
Earlier this week, Jost filmed in Tahiti before the surfing semifinals and finals , which were delayed because of small surf conditions.
“Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” he wrote alongside the video . “Semis and finals of Olympic surfing happening right now in Tahiti. At the Wall of Skulls.”
“What is: I’m excited,” he said in a press release to confirm the news.
“Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!,’” Suzanne Prete, the president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement.
“He’s smart and quick, like our contestants, and we know he’ll be able to keep up with them while making this new series his own,” Prete added. “We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey.”
Fans had mixed reactions to Jost landing the hosting job. Some thought the “SNL” star was the perfect fit for the role, while others complained the pick was “disappointing.”
