Amid a contract saga that right now appears likely to end with All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk being traded , there's enough bad news surrounding the San Francisco 49ers right now.

As such, All-Pro MIKE linebacker Fred Warner missing Wednesday's practice with what was described as "foot irritation" is not a development any fan of the team will have wanted to see.

However, Warner spoke to the media after practice, and was quick to calm fears of the issue being one that will keep him on the sideline long term.

"Just a little minor something to let it relax today," said Warner. "Nothing major at all."

The 49ers have already dealt with several injury issues in training camp. The headline blow being the one suffered by Christian McCaffrey , who will miss the entirety of preseason because of a calf strain. The running back depth chart has been decimated by injuries, with Elijah Mitchell and Isaac Guerendo (both hamstring) also on the sideline, leading the Niners to bring back Matt Breida and also sign tailback Ke'Shawn Vaughn.

San Francisco has also been working without right guard Spencer Burford , a candidate to start at that spot, because of a broken hand

With Dre Greenlaw still recovering from the Achilles tear he suffered in Super Bowl 58 and Warner resting his injury, Curtis Robinson and Dee Winters joined the starting group at linebacker along with veteran De'Vondre Campbell on Wednesday.

Campbell will likely be the WILL linebacker to start the season in Greenlaw's continued absence. The competition to start at SAM on base downs remains wide open.
