CNN announced on Thursday that it is going into the comedy business with a new show hosted by Daily Show alum Roy Wood Jr. The new show will be the American version of the popular BBC comedy series titled Have I Got News For You.

The new program will run weekly on Saturday nights at 9 pm ET and will be available to stream on Max on Sundays.
“For far too long immigrants have been coming to America and taking Black jobs, kudos to CNN and the immigrants at Hat Trick Productions for bringing a Black job to the States,” said Wood Jr. of his new gig – taking a subtle jab at former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric.

“It is an honor to be a part of such a hallowed British institution to help make sense of the American institutions of chaos, name calling, disinformation, reality television and the 8-hour news cycle,” added the veteran comedian.

Wood Jr. served as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s Daily Show from 2015 to 2023 and hosted a season of the network’s This Is Not Happening. He is also a veteran stand-up, having done multiple specials over the years.

CNN, which is currently languishing in third place in the cable news ratings , has found success with its “CNN Originals” – under which Have I Got News For You will be produced.

Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals and creative development, oversees the award-winning CNN Originals portfolio that includes the following premium content brands: CNN Original Series, CNN Films, CNN Presents, and the newly formed CNN Studios, an internal production studio which creates long-form programming for CNN’s global platforms,” noted the network in a statement.

Over the years, CNN Originals has produced fan-favorite programming like Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. The network also won an Oscar with its documentary Navalny .
