Fan Publicly Shames CBC for Removing Viral Twerking Video of Alysha Newman

After quickly racking up millions of views on a viral video of Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman twerking after winning the bronze medal, one fan on social media now has beef with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

CBC, Canada's national broadcaster, owns the rights to broadcast the Olympics in Canada through 2032, including this year's games in Paris.

On Wednesday, August 7, Newman's cheerful reaction to her first career Olympic medal captured mass attention online before the trending video was reported for copyright violation and removed from X (formerly Twitter).

"The idiots at CBC flagged me for copyright of Alysha Newman’s Olympic twerking clip," the poster wrote. "After 3.4M views, they’d rather try to hurt my account and have no one see their content than have an actual audience. Either way, she’s awesome and CBC sucks."

It's not the first viral 2024 Olympic video to be removed by a broadcast rights holder either.

On August 4, a popular X video was removed by NBC showing USA swimmer Katie Ledecky emphatically cheering on teammate Bobby Finke during his men's 1,500M freestyle gold medal swim.

Newman's bronze was the ninth of its kind for Team Canada, bringing its overall count to 19 through August 7. Team USA, who took silver in the women's pole vault final thanks to a 15-foot, 11-inch vault from Katie Moon, still leads the 2024 Olympics with 94 total medals .
