Narcan training coming to Glens Falls, Warrensburg

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Five communities will be hosting Narcan training sessions in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day. Narcan training and distribution sessions will happen in Glens Falls, Warrensburg, Lake George and two surrounding counties on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Narcan is a brand of Naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose. The medication, administered through a nasal spray, only works on opioids, such as heroin, fentanyl and prescription pain medications, but is safe to use even if opioids are not present.

Sessions will be held at:

• Warren-Washington Community Action
  • 190 Maple Street, Glens Falls
  • 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
• Salvation Army
  • 37 Broad Street, Glens Falls
  • 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Hudson Headwaters Health Network
  • 3767 Main Street, Warrensburg
  • 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Additional sites will be set up in Lake George, Lake Luzerne and in Washington and northern Saratoga counties. All sites will be set up and staffed by Warren County Health Services, Alliance for Positive Health and Hope & Healing Recovery Center.

The distribution events will begin with a brief training on Naloxone and those in attendance will receive a free kit of Narcan. Those who struggle with opioid addiction, or have friends and family who do also, are encouraged to attend an event.
