    Pittsfield Officer aids 7 residents in overnight fire evacuation

    PITTSFIELD, Mass. ( NEWS10 ) — On Saturday morning Pittsfield Police Officer Michael Doyle was on patrol duty when he noticed smoke coming from a residential area east of the downtown corridor in Pittsfield. Officer Doyle alerted dispatch and tracked the origin to a home on Third Street.

    According to the Pittsfield Police Department, the ground floor exterior of the home was engulfed in flames while seven people were sleeping in the building, whom the officer alerted of the fire immediately. The occupants were able to exit the building when the Pittsfield Fire Department (PFD) arrived minutes later.

    PFD was able to put the fire out, but the residents had to seek alternate shelter. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
