Monroe County Board Chair Cedric Schnitzler running for 95th Assembly District

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) -- A Monroe County official is entering the race for Wisconsin's 95th Assembly District.

Cedric Schnitzler said in a press release Tuesday he's challenging Democratic incumbent Jill Billings to bring new leadership and a new vision.

Schnitzler ran an organic dairy farm for 30 years and is the current Monroe County Board Chairman.

Per the release, he said while progress in Madison has been made, "it's crucial that we continue to ensure local communities and infrastructure, schools, and families are getting the support they need. As everyone is struggling with increased costs and inflation, we cannot also continue to increase the financial burden at the local or state level. We need to be helping folks here in Western Wisconsin, not making it harder.”

The 95th Assembly District looks very different under the new legislative maps. It used to be limited to the city of La Crosse.

It now contains most of La Crosse and stretches east into Bangor and Sparta and south to Cashton.
