UW students compete in Wisconsin Agriculture Case Study Competition

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- Students from three Wisconsin Universities competed in the first annual Agricultural Case Study Competition Friday.

Government officials joined students from the University of Wisconsin Platteville, Madison, and River Falls campuses to hear them present on a mock cranberry marsh renovation.

Participants had one month to come up with ideas on how to improve production, and sustain a fictional cranberry farm.  Judges then picked who had the best plan.

Heidi Slinkman works for Cranberry Learning, one of the hosts of Friday's event.  She said the competition was a chance to show students a potential future in the cranberry industry.

"This is also a great way to show students that even if you aren't born into agriculture and if you don't even live near agriculture, that you can start seeing yourself as part of this agricultural industry, and by that we mean career pathways," said Slinkman

After the presentations, there was a panel discussion focusing on Wisconsin agriculture and its future.

The students also got to tour the cranberry research facility.
