LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Local law enforcement took to new heights Friday morning for a great cause.

Officers perched atop both of La Crosse’s Dunkin’ Donuts locations for the annual "Cop on a Rooftop" fundraiser, benefiting Special Olympics Wisconsin.

From dawn to noon, police traded their patrol cars for rooftops, raising awareness and funds for local Special Olympics athletes.

Kat Craugh, Recreation Manager of La Crosse Special Olympics, explained the event brings the community together.

“The athletes love being here, they love working with the law enforcement, and it’s a great day for everyone,” said Craugh.

Funds raised through the initiative will support around 300 local Special Olympics athletes. Over the past 12 years, Cops on a Rooftop has raised over $500,000 for Special Olympics programs across the state.
