Tomah school district will ask voters to approve $177 million capital referendum in November

TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT) Tomah's School board will ask voters to approve a $177 million referendum in November.

In a 6-1 vote Monday, the school board approved adding the question to the November 5 ballot, which asks voters to approve $177,335,000. The money would go toward constructing a new high school, as well as renovations that would turn the existing high school into a new middle school, turning the middle school into a new elementary school, and renovating La Grange Elementary for early childhood education and Montessori classrooms.

The capital referendum is based on district-assessed facility needs and feedback from a community-wide survey earlier this year.

"This is a generational referendum decision that could shape the Tomah community for years to come," Tomah school board president Mike Gnewikow said. "It has the potential to positively affect every single student in the Tomah district by improving access to collaborative learning, improved Tech. Ed. shops, expanded fine arts spaces, and gymnasium space to meet the physical education and extracurricular needs."

District residents can expect to see informational mailers sent soon. More information on the referendum can be found at the school district's website.
