ALERT DAY conditions until 1 AM for heavy rainfall & damaging winds; dry & quiet for Friday

W H AT WE ARE TRACKING: A line of strong to severe thunderstorms containing heavy rainfall will push east of the area by 1 AM.  Pleasant and quiet conditions are expected later on Friday and for Labor Day Weekend.

NEXT 24 HRS: The main line of thunderstorms will move east of the area 1 am with some lingering showers through the morning commute. The main risk of these storms is damaging winds and very heavy rainfall.  Main areas will receive 2 to 3" of rainfall in a very short time period, which could lead to flooding. Cloud cover decreases Friday morning (north of La Crosse) or afternoon (south of La Crosse), along with a drop in humidity values. Temperatures will only climb into the 70s to low 80s with a breeze from the north.

LOOKING AHEAD: Although we see a brief warmup on Saturday, even cooler air arrives behind another dry cold front by Sunday. High temperatures fall from the 80s on Saturday to the 60s and 70s on Sunday through Tuesday. High temperatures will slowly return to seasonable by the second half of next week, with another cool down associated with a cold front by the following weekend (back to the 60s/70s). Overall, the weather pattern looks quiet on Labor Day weekend and all of next week.
