Drag racing has lost an iconic figure in the world of sportsman racing. Scotty Richardson, 54, passed away on August 14, 2024, following a brief illness. It is estimated that Richardson won hundreds, if not thousands, of drag races during his storied career. Richardson’s talents shone on big and little stages and behind the wheel of full-bodied and open-wheeled machinery.

William (Bill) Carroll West, a pioneer in the promotion of Supercross and Motocross events, passed away at the age of 88 on July 28, 2024, after a lengthy illness. In 1936, West was born in Clarksville, Tennessee. He became a member of the U.S. Army in the 1950s and was stationed in Germany. After his service, West was working for Florida Power when he bought his first motorcycle, a Honda 100 Scrambler. With a growing passion for cars and motorcycles, he opened his own shop in St. Petersburg called Cycle Village. He also began competing in flat track, enduro, and motocross events, even though he was well into his thirties. He soon ventured into motorsports promotion, which is where he found his true calling. He began creating and producing events that helped shape the entire motorsports world.

After running their last race in November of 21 at Perris Auto Speedway, the Moose’s were stuffed into the trailer and embarked on their 33 hour trip from California to their new home in Indiana. They hooped and hollered ( or whatever sounds Moose’s make ) for 2 years wanting out, begging to get out to play in the dirt. Tom finally let ‘em out in April of ’24, as we had planned to run the USAC Eastern Storm Tour in PA, but unfortunately those plans fizzled out.
