A man out on probation for drug charges less than a year ago and a woman from Douglas were recently arrested following a search at a local apartment. On August 7, 2024, at around 1:00 PM, Detectives from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit were conducting a proactive narcotics patrol in Douglas. During their patrol, a detective spotted 30-year-old Christopher Lamar Hawkins, who had outstanding warrants for fleeing police and methamphetamine possession, driving a white 2021 Kia Sorento. Hawkins was stopped in front of apartment 203/204 on N Wheeler Ave, where two detectives approached him. Breanna Henderson, 33, then came out of apartment 203 to "investigate what was going on with Hawkins" and appeared to whisper with Hawkins during his arrest. The report states that Henderson, who temporarily lived with Hawkins, began whispering with him "presumably about nefarious activities due to Hawkins's previous history with drug distribution and evading law enforcement."

(Silver Spring, MD) -- Starting September 30th, retailers will need to check photo ID of anyone under the age of 30 who tries to buy tobacco products. The FDA announced the final rule Thursday that follows legislation signed in 2019 that raised the federal minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21. Previously retailers were required to verify the photo ID of anyone under the age of 27. Also starting September 30th, vending machines that sell tobacco products will not be allowed where anyone under the age of 21 is permitted to enter at any time. The director of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products said the new restrictions are another "step toward protecting our nation's youth from the health risks of tobacco products."

As far as we knew, that was the end of the road for the chicken wing thief, until last week when it was announced that Liddell was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty. The verdict sent a shockwave through the interwebs, with people calling the decision outrageous and a complete overreaction. Three hundred thousand dollars is, no doubt, a lot of money. And 11,000 cases of chicken wings could’ve fed lots of children during COVID-19, but nine years behind bars does seem excessive. The story has caught the attention of NFL star Chris Jones, who said he wanted to help Liddell, offering to pay for the wings she stole. It’s unclear whether Jones’ offer will affect her sentence. Her lawyers say they have 30 days from her sentencing to submit a motion to vacate her earlier plea and request a payment of restitution instead.
