It's been more than four decades since former child star William “Billie” Thomas Jr. died in Los Angeles of a heart attack at only 49 on October 10, 1980. Best known as "Buckwheat," the character he portrayed in the original Hal Roach-ignited Our Gang/Little Rascals classic film shorts from 1934 to 1944, Thomas faced similar challenges and misfortunes of several of his co-stars and other former child actors. Finnish progressive metal band Amorphis will be compiling some of their lesser known works for an upcoming set titled “Rarities: 1991 – 2001“. 12 songs will be featured in that set, which gathers up songs from EPs and b-sides from the timeframe referenced in the compilation’s title. Chris Adler, former drummer for multi-platinum groove metal band Lamb Of God, has another musical venture on the go, Shallow Rising. This new project, which is spearheaded by guitarist Tim Ossenfort (ex-Deepfall) finds that pair joined up with vocalist Alex Villarreal, bassist Taylor Brandt, and keyboardist Tim King (ex-Deepfall). The song “Further” is first up from the group. A lyric video for it can be found below, with a video for its follow-up “Remorse Code” set to premiere on September 10th.
