( NewsNation ) — Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is merely enjoying a “honeymoon period” amid a wave of support, according to Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.).

Speaking to NewsNation’s Chris Stirewalt on “The Hill Sunday”, Mullin believes Harris’ popularity is fleeting and centered around a lack of accountability and media presence.

“All this is a little bit of a honeymoon phase with Harris,” Mullin said. “She still hasn’t taken any questions from media. “

“She’s done no interviews whatsoever, and she’s hiding from her record,” Mullin added. “You have to answer those questions at some point.”

An Ipsos poll had Harris ahead of former President Donald Trump in a poll where participants were asked which candidate “cares more about people like you.”

The previous two presidents were leading in this category ahead of the 2016 and 2020 elections, respectively.

Mullin rejected the notion that insults toward Harris and others contributed to the polling.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “What you’re seeing is President Trump continuing to go out there and tell his message, and when he gets attacked or people are coming against him, he will defend himself. He always has.”

Per Decision Desk HQ , Trump is slightly ahead of Harris – 47.6% to 47.2% – in national polling average.
