( NewsNation ) — General Motors is laying off over 1,000 salaried employees globally in its software and services division, according to CNBC .

The layoffs , which include roughly 600 jobs at the company’s tech campus near Detroit , come less than six months after leadership changes, including former Apple executive Mike Abbott leaving General Motors.

The company confirmed the layoffs in a statement but did not disclose the number of layoffs that would take place. Affected employees were notified Monday morning.

If the number of layoffs is 1,000, that will mean 1.3% of the company’s global salaried workforce of 76,000 people are losing their jobs.

A company spokesperson said in an emailed statement that the layoffs are a result of prioritizing investments that will have “the greatest impact.”
