LAKE CHARLES, La. ( KLFY ) — An Iowa, Louisiana man was arrested after allegedly driving away from an arrest attempt, dragging a deputy about 40 feet, which broke the deputy’s arm, authorities said.

Sincere Z. Buckley, 18, of Iowa, is charged with obstructing a public passage, aggravated second degree battery and resisting a police officer with force or violence.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were conducting an investigation at about 7 p.m. Friday of an unoccupied car near Sixth Avenue and Third Street in Lake Charles that was blocking the southbound lane.

Deputies said an individual, later identified as Buckley, walked from a residence on Sixth Avenue, entered the driver’s seat of the car and locked the door. Deputies opened the back door of the car in an attempt to remove Buckley. After a brief struggle Buckley turned the car on and drove away, dragging one of the deputies approximately 40 feet, before fleeing the scene, authorities said.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital suffering a broken arm and abrasions from the incident.

Later the same evening, the Lake Charles Police Department received a report of Buckley hiding behind homes in the area. When LCPD officers attempted to make contact with Buckley, he fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Buckley was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with obstructing a public passage, aggravated second degree battery and resisting a police officer with force or violence. Bond was set at $35,100.
