Florida City, FL - A minor fender-bender escalated into a hit-and-run accident that left a South Florida man injured.

According to police, the driver, identified as 43-year-old William Alvarado of southwest Miami-Dade, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash.

Police say the accident occurred on August 10th when Alvarado's Honda Civic rear-ended a pickup truck on U.S. 1 near Palm Drive.

As the passenger of the pickup truck got out to assess the damage, Alvarado allegedly pinned him between the two vehicles and fled the scene.

The victim sustained injuries that required surgery and metal rods in his leg.

Police identified Alvarado as the suspect and took him into custody on Monday.

Alvarado claimed that the crash was the result of a road rage incident and denied hitting the victim.

Alvarado was held on a $7,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

An investigation into the August 10th accident is ongoing.
