PUC will reconsider water rate hike in Scranton

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission granted the City of Scranton's motion to reconsider big increases in water rates of Pennsylvania American Water, but also allowed the new rates to take effect now as previously scheduled. The PUC actions taken Monday stem from the agency's July 11 adoption of increases in water and sewer rates of Pennsylvania American Water.  The PUC also launched an investigation into water-quality and service concerns and complaints raised by customers and local legislators in the water company's northeastern service territory, particularly from Scranton and Dunmore areas; with completion within nine months.
