Private contractors to be paid more for city nuisance abatements
Jul. 21—In order to continue improving the city's curb appeal by getting rid of nuisances throughout the community, the Newton City Council on July 15 moved forward with staff's request to increase the abatement rate for private contractors from $60 per hour to $100 per hour with a one-hour minimum. When residents are non-compliant to the city's curb appeal ordinances and are therefore ...

Jul. 20—Newton City Council is taking a new direction for the proposed stormwater utility rate increase after a council member lobbied for an option that he argued would better address issues residents faced during the floods back in May, but in doing so he re-started the whole process and the matter won't finish until September. David’s Evening Forecast - Summer heat and humidity returning this week
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Partly sunny skies this afternoon helped temperatures to warm back into the low 80s for most of the area, a little warmer than what we saw yesterday. Clouds bubbled up in the warmth of the afternoon, however most of the area did stay dry. A few isolated showers popped up in parts of western Iowa, but those showers should fade away by 7pm as we start to cool off. Temperatures will drop back into the 70s after sunset, and we should see temperatures in the 60s once again overnight. Just like we saw early on Sunday, some patchy fog is likely late tonight and early on Monday.
Storm chances continue the next few days before tapering off by midweek
While the timing of the rain varied from location to location across southeastern Minnesota and northern Iowa, most places did end up seeing rain today. Unfortunately the cost of this rain was canceled northern Iowa state fair events in Mason City earlier today. As the sun sets any lingering shower...

Grassley: Changing candidates doesn't fool anyone
(The Center Square) – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley led a chorus of Iowa leaders saying President Joe Biden's decision to exit the presidential race doesn't change anything. "The American (people) are sick and tired of the Biden-Harris open border policies plus high cost of living crushing family budgets. A change in candidate doesn’t fool anyone," Grassley said in a social media post. "Changing horses midstream isn't going to stop the bad policies + reckless agenda at the top of the Democrat ticket." ...

HENDERSON — RAGBRAI has kicked off its 51st year with a more — quote, unquote — normal feeling. Though is anything about this river-to-river ride through the Hawkeye State truly normal? After celebrating a half-century last year with a bang, fewer riders are participating in the 2024 edition of the Register's Annual...
