Bills WR Makes Bold Claim On Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers

The Buffalo Bills signed wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to bolster their suddenly thin receiving corps this offseason, and while Valdes-Scantling does not exactly jump off the page, he does have a ton of big-game experience.

Valdes-Scantling spent the first four years of his career catching passes from Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers. He then went on to win back-to-back Super Bowls with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs the last couple of seasons.

While Rodgers and Mahomes were certainly the engines of their respective offenses, Valdes-Scantling wants everyone to know that he played a role in their success.

“I helped Aaron win a couple MVPs. I helped Pat win MVP, a couple Super Bowls. My resume speaks for itself, too,” Valdes-Scantling said, via Tyler Dunne of Go Long . “Ain’t a one-way thing, man. I put up some big numbers with these guys. Made some big plays for these guys. It all works out on both ends. And it’s not a fluke. It’s happened everywhere.”

There is no question that Valdes-Scantling has made some big plays. He caught three passes and had a touchdown in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers last February. Two winters ago, he logged six catches for 116 yards and a score in Kansas City’s AFC Championship Game win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, Valdes-Scantling has really been nothing more than an auxiliary option throughout his career.

His best season came with the Packers in 2020, when he hauled in 33 receptions for 690 yards and six touchdowns. In 2023, he snared 21 balls for 315 yards and a score with the Chiefs.

Will the Bills be able to survive after losing their top two receivers?

The Bills subtracted both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason, which has many wondering how Josh Allen and Co. will manage in 2024.

Sure, Valdes-Scantling seems confident, but he is hardly the answer to Buffalo losing its top two wide outs. The Bills did sign Curtis Samuel, and they added Keon Coleman through the draft, but they may be in for a rough adjustment period sans Diggs and Davis. At least early on.

Luckily, Buffalo does have one of the NFL’s better tight end duos in the form of Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, so Allen can fall back on those two as security blankets.

Plus, James Cook established himself as one of the top running backs in the league last season, as the Bills rode him to major success during the second half of 2023.

But apparently, Valdes-Scantling thinks Buffalo will be just fine.
