Dallas Cowboys Exec Sets The Record Straight On CeeDee Lamb

    By Matthew Schmidt,

On Thursday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the team did not have any urgency to get wide receiver CeeDee Lamb signed to an extension.

Not surprisingly, Jones’ comments did not sit well with Lamb, who reacted in kind on social media.

However, Cowboys executive Stephen Jones is now trying to smooth things over.

During an appearance on the Doomsday podcast, Stephen Jones said that Dallas has every intention of keeping Lamb long term.

“We think the world of CeeDee, and we understand where he’s coming from on this and why he’s not here,” Stephen Jones said. “But we also continue to work very hard on getting this deal done.”

But what are the chances it doesn’t get done and Lamb ends up elsewhere by 2025 (or sooner)?

“Zero. Zero. Zero thought process of not having CeeDee be a Dallas Cowboy,” Stephen Jones said. “CeeDee’s not going to be playing anywhere but Dallas, but we want this to be a great situation for him when we’re all said and done but also a good situation so that we can put a great football team on the field.”

Well, the Cowboys better get moving, because the regular season starts in less than a month.

The Cowboys cannot afford to lose CeeDee Lamb

Lamb means almost everything to Dallas’ offense.

Outside of Lamb, the Cowboys are very limited in terms of weapons in their aerial attack. There is tight end Jake Ferguson and No. 2 wide receiver Brandin Cooks, and then not much else.

So, if you remove Lamb from the equation, Dallas’ offense suddenly becomes very ordinary.

Last season, Lamb led the NFL with 135 receptions to go along with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 25-year-old has rattled off three straight campaigns of well over 1,000 yards and has established himself as one of the best pass-catchers in football.

CeeDee Lamb is holding out of training camp as he prepares to enter the final year of his deal. He is expected to land a contract just south of the four-year, $140 million pact Justin Jefferson secured with the Minnesota Vikings.

The general consensus has been all along that the Cowboys will get something done with the University of Oklahoma product, but they are certainly running short on time.
