Steelers Trade For 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk In This 3-Team Proposal

The Pittsburgh Steelers want Brandon Aiyuk, and Aiyuk wants them. At least that’s how it seems.

Aiyuk requested a trade earlier this offseason, and recently, the San Francisco 49ers gave him permission to start seeking a contract extension from other teams.

Now, a new development did surface on Friday that could put a halt to all of this. The 49ers have apparently reopened contract negotiations with Aiyuk with the hope of working toward a long-term agreement.

If that happens, all of this is moot.

However, in the meantime, Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network has come up with a three-team trade proposal that would land Aiyuk in Pittsburgh.

The deal would involve the Steelers, 49ers and the Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh would land Aiyuk, San Francisco would receive receiver Courtland Sutton and a 2025 first-round draft pick (via the Steelers) and the Broncos would get wide out Van Jefferson and a pair of fifth-rounders.

Brandon Aiyuk would be a major coup for the Steelers

If Pittsburgh is able to secure a trade for Aiyuk, all bets are off in the AFC North.

The Steelers would suddenly go from having a very questionable receiving corps to boasting one of the best one-two punches in football in the form of Aiyuk and George Pickens.

Of course, Russell Wilson is still no sure thing under center, but if he plays anything like he did in Denver last season, Pittsburgh’s offense should be just fine with those two pass-catchers.

Meanwhile, the Niners would land a good receiver in Sutton to pair with Deebo Samuel in order to maintain their standing in their quest for a Super Bowl.

But would the Broncos really do this? I’m not so sure they would trade Sutton—who is under contract through 2025—for Jefferson and a couple of late-round picks. If they wait until the trade deadline in early November, they could probably get more in return for Sutton.

Obviously, this would be a dream scenario for the Steelers. Yes, they would have to surrender a first-round pick, but they would be getting Aiyuk.

Aiyuk seems to prefer Pittsburgh if the 49ers do trade him, but again, it’s now looking like San Francisco may be able to work something out with the 26-year-old.

If not, then the Steelers will be front and center to try and acquire Brandon Aiyuk.
