4 Potential Trade Targets the Green Bay Packers Should Pursue

With the departure of long-time quarterback Aaron Rodgers last year, the Green Bay Packers set out with Jordan Love under center for the 2023 campaign.

It was difficult to predict what sort of future the Packers were looking at after such a huge transition. However, as the season went on, Love started showing his ability, ending the year on a high.

Green Bay is rebuilding the team around Love now, and a new era of Packers football has just begun. While there are not many obvious holes on the roster for the NFC North outfit, looking at a couple of potential trades won’t hurt the Packers.

Keeping the roster fresh and improving wherever possible every year is a key aspect of building an overall balanced team, so with that in mind, here are four potential trade targets Green Bay should pursue.

    James Bradberry, CB, Philadelphia Eagles

James Bradberry could be an interesting target for the Packers to pursue. Currently, Green Bay has Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes as its starting cornerbacks, but both these players have had their run-in with injuries. A veteran defender in the secondary such as Bradberry could make sense.

While it’s true that Bradberry didn’t have a good season in 2023, he was one of the important and best players during the Eagles’ 2022 team which reached Super Bowl LVII.

As far as the Eagles are concerned, Bradberry may no longer be in their plans for the future, so a trade for him could work out well for both parties.

    Jonathan Allen, DL, Washington Commanders

Green Bay is a young team all on both sides of the ball. Moreover, they are inexperienced in the interior of the defensive line, and the addition of a veteran such as Jonathan Allen could solve quite a few of their problems.

Last year, the Packers did not fare well against the run, giving up nearly 4.5 yards per carry. Shoring up the inside to stop the run will be essential for the Packers heading into the 2024 season.

Moreover, with Jeff Hafley taking over the defensive duties in Green Bay, the Packers are set to change from a 3-4 base to a 4-3 base, for which another experienced head in the middle can do wonders.

    Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

It is looking more and more unlikely that Tee Higgins will be traded this year. The contract standoff between Higgins and the Bengals led him to sign the franchise tag, and Cincinnati seems like they are willing to give the Super Bowl one more chance this year as they try to keep the most important players together.

That said, if the price is right, the Bengals may be enticed into trading Higgins, and the Packers could do well with another receiver, especially of Higgins’ caliber. At the moment, Green Bay’s receiving core consists of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed, but Higgins can add more experience to the side.

Brandon Aiyuk, WR, San Francisco 49ers

Similar to the Higgins trade possibility, Brandon Aiyuk is also facing contractual negotiation issues with the 49ers. Aiyuk has flourished in the 49ers’ system these past four years and is coming off back-to-back 1,000-plus-yard receiving seasons in 2022 and 2023.

Even though the Packers have a young and deep receiving unit, what they lack is the experience and a true No. 1 on the team. Even though a trade with the 49ers seems difficult, bringing in Aiyuk could be a big move for the Jordan Love era in Green Bay.
