Miami Dolphins fans have long awaited Tua Tagovailoa’s jump into the elite tier. Despite proving to be a decent upgrade over the Ryan Tannehill era, Tagovailoa still has plenty of room for improvement. That said, he has improved over the course of his career. However, it hasn’t been fast enough for analysts, pundits, and many fans.

While some expect Tagovailoa to crater this year, the 2024 season will be a slight step up for Tagovailoa in a few areas and a step back in others.

Here’s a look at some specifics.

Tua Tagovailoa will complete 70 percent of his passes

Seventy percent passing accuracy has been the bar for the best quarterbacks. Back in the day, a 65 percent completion rate was the line between good and bad. Now, the bar between solid and great is around 70 percent. Tagovailoa will leave the 60s behind and say hello to the 70s this season. It won’t be that big of a jump, however. Last year, Tagovailoa completed 69.3 percent of his passes. This year, he’ll set a new career high for the second consecutive year.

He will join the 5,000-Yard Club

Not only will Tagovailoa be more accurate than ever before, but he also will join the 5000 yard club for the first time in his career. Over the course of his NFL tenure, while his health and turnover margins have gone up and down, his total yardage has only increased. Last season, he earned a league-leading 4624 yards, per Pro Football Reference . This year, he will earn at least 400 more yards and jump to a new high.

He will win his first playoff game

Tagovailoa has helped his team reach the playoffs multiple times in his career. However, thanks to injury one season and an ice storm in another, the quarterback is still seeking his first postseason win.

While he won’t win the division or dominate in the win column in the regular season, he will send someone home for the first time since college. It won’t be the deep playoff run that fans and analysts have been yearning for, but it will be a step in the right direction.

The win won’t come against Patrick Mahomes or another AFC heavyweight, however. Rather, it will come against a division winner that won their division with about nine wins, leaving plenty of questions for the Dolphins heading into 2025.
