The Houston Texans saw a massive boost this offseason with the addition of Stefon Diggs. However, it might not be a boom for prospective fantasy football managers.

Writing in an article for Bleacher Report, NFL analyst Kristopher Knox predicted Diggs to be a relative no-show at times this season.

Here’s how he put it :

“Landing with C.J. Stroud is great for Diggs, but he’s more likely to disappear in some weeks than he ever was with Josh Allen and the Bills. And while Diggs was consistently Buffalo’s top target, his production waned late in each of the past two seasons. It’s hard to justify using a third or fourth-round pick on a player with a track record of disappointing during the fantasy playoffs.”

He also mentioned that Diggs will be sharing the rock much more this season in a crowded Texans offense. Tank Dell, Nico Collins, Noah Brown, Dalton Schultz, and Joe Mixon will all be competing for the ball.

Stefon Diggs heads into 2024 season with Texans on decline

In the NFL, players often slip from their peak as soon as they get it. Aside from quarterback stars like Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, who can play for decades after establishing themselves, other players have a limited shelf life.

It seems that once a player builds themselves up to star status, they are then greeted by the fact that they are in their mid-late 20s. Only a few years later, the decline begins.

Diggs appears to be on this trajectory. After rising to stardom after the Minnesota Miracle in 2017, Diggs began to hit a decline last season and arguably even before that.

In 2022, Diggs earned 1429 yards and 11 touchdowns, but failed to earn 105 yards in any of his last seven games. Then, in 2023, he earned 1183 yards and eight touchdowns. He failed to earn 100 yards in each of his last 11 games of the year.

Now, fighting with more mouths to feed in Houston, it appears that Diggs is slated for an even further decrease. Of course, statistics might not even be his pursuit anymore heading into an age 31 season. He has yet to hoist his first Lombardi Trophy, so that might trump all for him over the next few seasons.

Has Stefon Diggs peaked in the NFL once and for all, or will he prove Knox wrong?
