Rams Acquire Patriots’ Matthew Judon In This Blockbuster Proposal

Since the preseason is underway in the NFL, teams are starting to figure out what their rosters are going to look like come Week 1. For the Los Angeles Rams, they are in an interesting position heading into 2024.

It was just three years ago that the Rams won the Super Bowl. It felt like they went all-in to get there, but it turned out to be a good decision to do so. While the Rams might have gotten knocked out of the first round of the playoffs last season, they did show some signs that they could be contenders once again.

Recently, Bleacher Report spoke about one trade target for the Rams before the start of the season being Matthew Judon.

Judon isn’t happy with his current contract situation with the New England Patriots, and moving him makes sense.

In a hypothetical trade, here’s what the deal looks like that Bleacher Report proposed:

    Rams Receive: Edge Matthew Judon

Patriots Receive: Conditional 2025 Third-Round Pick

“Trading for Judon would make a lot of sense as L.A. is looking to reload its pass rush in the wake of Aaron Donald’s offseason retirement. Replacing Donald on a player-for-player basis simply isn’t going to happen. With a stacked edge-rushing rotation, though, the Rams could continue fielding a disruptive defensive front.

Now, the Rams have already taken some steps toward improving that front, using their first two draft picks on edge-rusher Jared Verse and defensive lineman Brandon Fiske, but Judon could add even more juice to the rotation.”

Matthew Judon would be a major get for the Rams

Since the Rams have hit on some late-round picks, they have really retooled quickly after winning the Super Bowl. However, this offseason, the Rams did suffer a massive blow when star defensive tackle Aaron Donald decided to retire. Donald was still one of the best defensive linemen in the league and he will be missed.

While Judon is a very different player than Donald, he would be able to help the Rams’ pass rush immensely. When healthy, Judon has shown in New England that he is capable of recording 15+ sacks in a season.

In a game when getting after the passer is becoming more and more important, Judon would be a good player to pursue for the Rams. Also, with some young talent coming in on the edge and the defensive line, Judon could help expedite their development, as he will warrant double teams.

If the Rams want to make a true run again this season, adding a player like Judon would help them a lot.
