Surprising Cowboys Playmaker Projected To Win Starting Job

With one preseason game in the books for the Dallas Cowboys, they are a step closer to the start of the 2024 season. After a very disappointing end to 2023, there are a lot of question marks for the Cowboys going into this season.

It didn’t feel like a very good offseason for the Cowboys, as they didn’t do much to improve on paper. One of their areas of concern is at the wide receiver position. As of now, CeeDee Lamb is still holding out for a new contract, and the two sides don’t appear to be close.

Lamb is best player on offense for the Cowboys, and Dallas will be going nowhere this season if he sits out. While the franchise will work to get a new deal in place with Lamb, they do have some decisions to make about who will round out the receiving corps.

Recently, Bleacher Report spoke about the wide receiver position for the Cowboys heading into 2024 and projected Jalen Brooks to surprise everyone and land the No. 3 slot.

Here’s what they had to say about it:

“The unknown is who will round out the top three receiver spots. The Cowboys dumped Michael Gallup in the offseason, and there’s a competition brewing between Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks and KaVontae Turpin. The battle between Tolbert and Brooks was tight early in camp.

Tolbert was listed as a starter on the first unofficial depth chart and may have the early edge based on draft status alone. He was a 2022 third-round selection while Brooks was picked in the seventh round last year. However, this is a competition that will be worth following throughout the remainder of the preseason.”

Will Jalen Brooks really beat out Jalen Tolbert for the Cowboys?

Considering the Cowboys might not have much of a running game with uncertainty in the backfield, Dak Prescott could be asked to throw the ball a lot this season. While Lamb and Brandin Cooks are proven in the NFL, the third wide receiver spot for Dallas seems very much up for grabs.

Brooks grabbing the spot is interesting, as many people have been high on Jalen Tolbert heading into the season. However, Brooks did make a big play in the preseason opener, and that will help his cause.

For Dallas, while the third receiver position is important to figure out, they must also get a new deal in place for Lamb, or this season will be over before it starts.
