Eagles’ Defensive Star Doesn’t Hold Back On QB Jalen Hurts

The 2023 NFL campaign was a rough one for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Following a tremendous 2022 season in which Hurts led the Eagles all the way to the Super Bowl and finished second in MVP voting, Hurts struggled mightily last year, committing costly turnovers and apparently beefing with head coach Nick Sirianni as Philadelphia collapsed down the stretch.

Even worse for Hurts, a recent report surfaced that Hurts’ relationship with Sirianni was fractured and that it needed considerable repairing.

Not only that, but Hurts did not seem to be 100 percent healthy in 2023.

However, Eagles defensive lineman Brandon Graham says that Hurts has brought a new approach in 2024, and it has been very beneficial.

“I mean, you could just see that Jalen’s getting more comfortable by the day and just the way he’s moving, even quicker than he was last year,” Graham said, via Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia . “I think he was probably dealing with some stuff last year. But you can tell that he got a new and improved view of just life this year. And I’m excited for him because you can tell that he is excited.”

So, physically, Hurts appears to look better, but what about in the locker room?

That is the question many will be asking heading into the new season.

Will the Eagles be able to rebound after a miserable end to last season?

Philadelphia got off to a 10-1 start last year, but lost five of its last six regular-season games to finish 11-6, losing out on the NFC East division title in the process.

The Eagles were then routed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, putting an unceremonious end to what was a dreadful campaign.

Philly has attempted to reload this offseason, signing running back Saquon Barkley in free agency while also addressing its ailing secondary in the NFL Draft.

    But will it be enough?

Of course, Hurts is at the center of it all, and his camaraderie with Sirianni may ultimately prove to be the most important factor in the Eagles’ Super Bowl chances.

Hurts also has to prove himself in the process.

Since becoming Philadelphia’s full-time starting quarterback in 2021, the 26-year-old has really only put together one truly impressive season. Otherwise, he has been very pedestrian.

We’ll see if Jalen Hurts can re-establish himself as an MVP candidate starting next month.
