4 Players on the Roster Bubble for the Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys once again reached the postseason only to crash out in the Wild Card Round to an inspired Green Bay Packers team last year. For what it’s worth, this has become the norm the Cowboys for the better part of three decades, and getting over the hump that is the Divisional Round is still looking out of reach in northeast Texas.

Even though Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes they are “all in” this season, multiple key players are yet to sign a new deal, giving a sense of unease for the five-time Super Bowl champions. What is certain, though, is the roster spot for most of the 53-man squad as players such as Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and many more are a lock.

However, there will be multiple other players who are still fighting for a place on the team, and in this article, we will take a look at four players who are on the roster bubble for the 2024 Cowboys.

    Deuce Vaughn, RB

The Cowboys re-signed Ezekiel Elliot after one season with the New England Patriots last year. Even though Tony Pollard has left, it is looking like an uphill battle for second-year running back Deuce Vaughn.

As a rookie in 2023, Vaughn, who was drafted in the sixth round, never got going for the Cowboys. He played in seven games and had 23 attempts but was able to rush for only 40 yards with a lowly average of 1.7 yards per carry.

With other backs in contention for Dallas such as Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis, Vaughn looks set to miss the 53-man roster.

    Damien Wilson, LB

Linebacker Damien Wilson is currently in his second stint with Dallas, having started his professional career with the same team. After four years, he went to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he started all games he played in those two years and even won a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, he had a down year in 2022 with the Panthers and came back to Dallas last year. The problem for Wilson at the moment is that the Cowboys are pretty stacked at the linebacker position. Plus, Wilson is 31 years old and Dallas has multiple younger players at the position.

However, should the former fourth-rounder put in some good performances, he may be able to make the team, as his capabilities are well known.

    Jalen Cropper, WR

Jalen Cropper is an undrafted wide receiver from who later signed with the Cowboys and spent the year on the practice squad in 2023. Breaking into the main team for the 2024 season also looks tough for this Fresno State alumnus due to the stiff competition in the wide receiver room.

While Lamb and Brandin Cooks are a lock for WR1 and WR2, Jalen Tolbert should be the other starter. Cropper will face stiff competition from Jalen Brooks, KaVontae Turpin, Ryan Flournoy, and others.

Having said that, Cropper has used the opportunity of Lamb’s holdout to his advantage, making some big plays during training camp to give himself a big boost.

    Josh Ball, G

This is one position on Dallas’ offense that is going to be tough to crack. The Cowboys boast of a pair of excellent guards in Zack Martin and Tyler Smith. Josh Ball, who has been with the Cowboys since 2021, hasn’t been able to make any significant impact on the field.

Ball has struggled with injuries, and his play has not been up to the mark. It has been tough sailing for the Virginia native ever since and it looks like Ball may not make the final roster.
