Patriots May Receive Bad News On Matthew Judon’s Trade Value

The New England Patriots have been making headlines recently. That is because the future of their star pass rusher, Matthew Judon, seems to be up in the air.

Judon isn’t the only star pass rusher in the AFC East who looks like his days with his current team are numbered. Haason Reddick of the New York Jets, who has yet to report since being acquired earlier this offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles, is also looking for a trade.

Matthew Judon has at least been showing up to practice and taking part in workouts. But, it was an exchange that looked fiery between him and head coach Jerod Mayo, that resulted in Judon walking away from practice, which has the rumor mill swirling.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, there have been several teams who have contacted the Patriots about Judon, who is in the final season of his contract. Given the current outlook of the franchise, it should come as no surprise that teams are looking to acquire the star edge rusher.

Matthew Judon is reportedly seeking a new contract, but the two sides have been unable to agree on a deal. Early in a rebuild with a new head coach and front office replacing the legendary Bill Belichick, making a trade does make some sense.

However, his value on the trade market doesn’t sound like it is anywhere near where New England would like to see it. According to Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, a valuable pick likely isn’t coming.

If they can’t get anything done, they should look to deal him because the flip side to competing now is, ‘Well, we’re not winning anything this year whether he’s here or not, and so let’s see if we can get ourselves a valuable pick.’ But I don’t think they’re getting a valuable pick for Matthew Judon.”

Despite the less-than-ideal value estimation by Perry, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report believes that the Patriots should still look to strike a deal centered around Judon. He is turning 32 years old today and missed 13 games last season.

The Patriots are likely seeking at least a third-round pick, which is what the Jets traded to acquire Reddick. That pick will turn into a second-rounder if he hits certain statistical and playing time quotas.

A Day 3 pick may be all New England can get, but that is better than nothing. As a rebuilding team, they can use all of the assets it can get its hands on at this point.
